Volunteering Day at Loddon School
On the 25th of August we returned to Loddon School, once again to help with some new play areas for the students.
We were not able to take our phones round to capture images for security reasons this time, but needless to say we all put in some effort and helped where we could.
These images are from our earlier visit in March 26.
In the morning we started the clearing of a new play and sensory area by creating some tyre seats, a sandpit and making the area neat and tidy. Others were restoring an old wooden kitchen unit to be added to the play area later.
The sun shone on us all day and we were treated to a visit to see Annie the horse and Jack the Donkey afterwards, both seemed grateful for a cuddle and a stroke.
Loddon is a school and home for children with autism, severe learning disabilities and associated complex restrictive behaviours and interacting with animals and outdoor play form an important part of their learning and ability to explore the world in a safe environment.
We will be back next year!
Not only is it rewarding to see the progress that we made in the day, being able to talk to staff as we worked means we also started to understand the impact that this will have on the children. We will be back later in the year!!
